Scientific associations knock down gene patents in Supreme Court The Association for Molecular Pathology and other plaintiffs are celebrating the U.S. Supreme Court's unanimous decision to invalidate patents on human genes. The court ruled unanimously Thursday that Myriad Genetics could not control all testing or other work with two genes it isolated that are linked to a higher risk of breast and ovarian cancer. These are the same genes that actress Angelina Jolie had screened prior to her recent decision to have a double mastectomy.
